Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump announced on his social media platform, Truth Social, that he is committed to working with the leadership of India and Pakistan to seek a resolution to the long-standing Kashmir conflict, which he described as a "thousand-year-old" issue.
In a post published following the declaration of a ceasefire between the two South Asian nuclear-armed neighbors, President Trump praised the leadership of both nations for showing "wisdom and courage" during a moment of heightened tensions that he said could have led to mass casualties and devastation.
“Millions of good and innocent lives could have been lost,” Trump wrote. “I am proud of the strong, unwavering leadership of both India and Pakistan, who recognized that this was the time to stop the current aggression.”
President Trump stated that the brave decisions made by the leaders of both countries would significantly enhance their legacies. He also expressed pride in the role the United States played in helping India and Pakistan reach what he called a “historic” decision.
He added, “Together, we will see if a solution to Kashmir can be found after a thousand years.”
In addition to diplomatic efforts, Trump also announced plans to significantly increase U.S. trade relations with both India and Pakistan.
The ceasefire between the two nations was first announced by President Trump on Saturday, marking a pivotal moment after weeks of escalating rhetoric and cross-border hostilities.
“I congratulate both countries for demonstrating intelligence and statesmanship,” Trump said in his message, signaling renewed U.S. involvement in South Asian diplomacy.
